1) My argument
I want to argue that healthy human mind is essential to the leaders. Things that come up to our mind if we think about the leaders are strong, powerful, and professional. However, I think the most important feature that the leader should have is healthy mind. Here the healthy mind can be extensive. As healthy mind have the power to change negative thoughts and feelings into positive, rational, motivating thoughts, I believe that the person who has healthy mind is the best candidate for the leader.
2) How I find my argument
First, my research question was 'Is healthy mind essential to the leaders?' I've read an article comparing the two computer geniuses, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. The article described Steve Jobs as a dictator who felt beyond his own rules, while describing Bill Gates as a leader who loved his employees and respect their opinion. I wanted to find the difference between two of them and therefore I continued researching healthy mind. I could find the features of healthy-minded people in health websites like http://mentalhealth.about.com.
3) New research questions
I have some questions that need to be resolved.
a. How can we know someone is mentally healthy?
b. Traits of mentally ill person
c. Is healthy mind more important than the ability for the leader?
4) Connections to the Harvard Sampler
This topic has connection with Harvard Sampler <The Human Mind> by Steven Pinker.
